After being very good at monthly updates on Caleb during his first year of life, I failed to address him turning one. Part of this was probably emotional. I felt like I had to cover everything in one blog post. So, now that he's 14 months old, I can at least cover the basics of him at one. He still wasn't saying anything or walking at one. He had just barely learned how to stand in place for a few seconds before falling. I would say that just in the past 2 weeks he has really taken to walking. He was just starting out a month ago, but now he actually gets up if he falls down instead of crawling. He communicates with pointing and "oo"ing mostly. And he's still adorable and happy. He loves books (way more now than when he was one) and we spend our entire day reading books over and over and over. At one, he weaned better than expected and loved milk, but he was terrible at drinking. He could never really figure out a sippy cup but he did eventually learn how to use the straw cup. However, about half of what went in his mouth came right back out. So, we'd have to set him up with a giant towel, as pictured, to give him milk. It was quite an ordeal. He eventually figured it out and now he carries his milk cup everywhere.
Look at how dapper he is.
This is really the first time he stood up, dancing to Jake and the Neverland Pirates theme song.
I had to re-cover Sabrina's pink flowery reversible car seat because he's too big for his infant car seat. I think he approves.
These are my favorite moments. He's so cuddly. And he has his signature tongue and belly always hanging out in this picture.
The process of feeding our one year old milk. So messy.
Caleb sleeps with an Olaf blankie. He loves him so much. He giggles every night when he sees his blankie. Nana and Papa got him this soft Olaf. You can see how he felt about it when he saw it. Now he sleeps with this as well as his blankie. He just laughs and laughs going to bed.
Caleb is really into cars and trucks. Whenever our next door neighbor leaves or comes back home in his pickup, Caleb points out the window and grunts until I lift him up to see it. He does this with basically any truck or car or airplane sound he hears. He got some nice trucks for his birthday.
Here's Caleb's birthday party. I love this picture. His favorite food in the whole world is 49er flapjacks. He invited his girlfriend, Lydia, who was born in December, and her parents over for his birthday dinner.
Caleb, my little boy with a big belly, is definitely our fat kid who loves cake. He loved his birthday cupcake so much. He dove right in. And he loved the chocolate ganache.
Then just as quickly as he started, he threw it on the floor. He loved it, but he knew when he was done.
At one, Caleb really only ate baby food and breadlike stuff (pancakes, bread, waffles, tortillas, etc.) He liked melted cheddar, but would only eat swiss raw. Every other kind of cheese he would spit out. After Disney World, his palette became much larger. He now eats basically anything we put in front of him, though he is keenly aware of the presence of sweets in the house. It's hilarious.
